Camille Giroud Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Tonton Marcel' 2023

Camille Giroud Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru 'Tonton Marcel' is a full-bodied premier cru Chardonnay from the Côte de Beaune.

The village marks the southern end of great white Burgundy, its premier cru slopes built on limestone and marl. The Beaune house behind this bottle was long known for holding wines back far longer than most; new ownership in the early 2000s sharpened the sourcing and brought a lighter, more precise hand. Fruit is whole-bunch pressed, fermented in barrel with indigenous yeasts and matured on lees with a restrained share of new oak.

Rich but tightly wound, with citrus, hazelnut and a firm mineral line. Give it time in the glass, or a few more years in bottle, and serve at 12–13°C with roast poultry, scallops or fish in a cream sauce.
