Camille Giroud Clos de la Roche Grand Cru 2023

Camille Giroud Clos de la Roche Grand Cru comes from the largest of the grand crus at Morey-Saint-Denis, high on a stony limestone slope near the Gevrey boundary.

This is a négociant of genuine modesty — barely a hectare of owned vines, with everything else bought as fruit from long-standing growers across the Côte d'Or. Reds now see no sulphur at all during vinification, a change brought in a decade ago to soften tannin and open out aroma, with additions held back until the wine is safely in barrel.

Stony and broad-shouldered, carrying black fruit, forest floor and a mineral grip that stretches the finish. Give it air, serve at 17°C, and match it with venison, mushroom ragout or roast pigeon.
