Description
Cantina D'Arcy Barolo Preda in magnum, a whole-bunch Barolo from an east-facing parcel at the end of the Bussia valley.
Preda sits between Cannubi and Vignane in the commune of Barolo. The parcel here faces east at the top of the hill, where the thin Sant'Agata soils are laced with a high proportion of active lime, and that pairing of exposure and rocky ground is a large part of why the wine is so aromatic and mineral-edged. The other part is the winemaking, which owes more to Burgundy than to Barolo custom: 55 per cent whole bunches, 18 days on skins, then 18 months on fine lees in a thick-staved Garbellotto botti with no racking and a late malolactic fermentation, bottled unfined and unfiltered. It is a wine built on perfume, opening with red fruits and flowers before air brings depth, dark cherry and spice, and it is among the more silken and charming Barolos being made.
In magnum it will hold and improve for fifteen years; decant generously if opened young. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom pasta or aged cheeses.
