Cantina D'Arcy Langhe Nebbiolo 2020

Cantina D'Arcy Langhe Nebbiolo is drawn from two mature parcels at the foot of Barbaresco's Ronchi cru.

Langhe Nebbiolo covers Nebbiolo grown across the hills around Alba outside the Barolo and Barbaresco delimitations, and it is often where growers put younger vines or fruit from the lower slopes. Tom Myers works with two parcels of more than thirty years of age below Ronchi, the limestone-rich cru that runs along the southern belt of Barbaresco near the town. The deeper soils of the lower slopes give a more open, less structured style, which is exactly what he is after. In 2020 the fruit was entirely destemmed, fermented with natural yeasts and given measured time on skins. Myers does not rack and return during vinification, preferring to keep the wine in contact with its lees as long as possible, which he believes refines the tannins and sharpens the aromatics. It then matured without racking for seventeen months in two large Garbellotto botti of French and Slavonian oak.

Approachable now and good for six to eight years. Serve with tajarin, roast duck or a mushroom ragù at 16 to 18°C.
