Cantina D'Arcy Langhe Nebbiolo 2022

Cantina D'Arcy Langhe Nebbiolo comes from a single organically farmed parcel in Bricco San Pietro, the large Monforte d'Alba cru.

Langhe Nebbiolo allows growers to bottle the variety young, and the good examples come down to site and restraint. This one is drawn from Bricco San Pietro, the MGA lying east of the township of Monforte d'Alba, rooted in the classic clay-rich Sant'Agata marls. The parcel sits in a shaded conclave of the vineyard and has been farmed organically for many years. The cuvée was mostly destemmed, with 10 to 15 per cent left as whole bunches, and natural ferments, measured time on skins and pinpoint extraction form the blueprint. Maturation ran 11 months in concrete before bottling unfiltered, which keeps the fruit clear and the texture fine. The style leans classical rather than ripe, delicate but intense, with flowers, juicy red fruit and a nettle-like savoury edge, and fine tannins that benefit from decanting.

Delicious now with air, and good for five or six years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, veal or a mushroom and herb risotto.
