Cantina Del Pino Barbaresco 'Gallina' 2021

Cantina del Pino Barbaresco 'Gallina' is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo from the Gallina cru in the commune of Neive.

A south to south-west facing slope of sandy calcareous marl, this is one of Neive's best-regarded sites. It ripens early and gives more flesh and immediate charm than the cooler sites of Barbaresco village. Vacca bottles it separately, using indigenous yeasts, a long maceration and around two years in large Slavonian oak casks so the site does the talking. Quantities are small and the vines are farmed sustainably.

Riper and rounder than the estate bottling but still firmly built, with dark cherry, spice and tar. Decant an hour ahead and serve at 16–18°C with braised or roast red meat, or something with truffle.
