Capela da Quinta do Vesúvio Vintage Port is the flagship bottling from a historic estate deep in the Douro Superior.

Quinta do Vesuvio lies on the upper reaches of the Douro, a remote and very hot stretch of the valley developed in the nineteenth century by Dona Antonia Ferreira, one of the great figures of Portuguese wine. The Symington family acquired the property in 1989 and has run it as a single quinta ever since, bottling it on its own rather than blending it away into a house style. Grapes are still trodden by foot in granite lagares, the traditional method that gives thorough but gentle extraction before fortification. The Capela bottling takes its name from the estate's chapel and is drawn from a small selection of the best lagares, in years the family judges exceptional.

Decant carefully and serve at around 16 degrees with hard cheese and walnuts, or on its own after a meal; and the wine will keep for decades.
