Description
Castello di Neive Barbaresco DOCG is a Nebbiolo from Neive, one of the villages at the heart of the Barbaresco zone in Piedmont.
Barbaresco lies on the right bank of the Tanaro in the Langhe hills east of Alba, and its production is shared chiefly between the communes of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso. The zone was granted DOC status in 1966 and promoted to DOCG in 1980, among the first appellations in Italy to reach that rank. Nebbiolo ripens late here, often well into October, on calcareous marl soils, and the wine must be aged for a little over two years before release, of which at least nine months are spent in wood. The estate takes its name from the castle that stands in the village of Neive.
Decant and serve at around 18°C with braised beef, mushroom or truffle dishes, or aged cheese; it will reward ten to fifteen years in the cellar.
