Castello di Neive Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefan 1.5L MAGNUM 2012

Castello di Neive Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefan is a long-aged Nebbiolo from the most storied vineyard site in the Piedmontese commune of Neive.

Santo Stefano lies within the Albesani cru in Neive, a sheltered, south-west facing curve of calcareous marl that has been singled out as a superior site for well over a century. The estate has farmed these rows for generations and historically sold fruit from them to other celebrated Barbaresco houses before bottling the vineyard under its own label. Riserva status calls for longer ageing than standard Barbaresco, at least four years from harvest with a substantial spell in cask, so these wines reach the market well after their peers. Nebbiolo is the sole grape, fermented on skins and matured in large oak before an extended rest in bottle.

A format that suits a table set for game, braised beef or aged Castelmagno; decant well ahead and serve at around 18C.
