Description
Castello di Neive Barbaresco Santo Stefano DOCG is a single-vineyard Nebbiolo from the parcel that made the village of Neive famous.
Neive is the largest of the four communes entitled to the Barbaresco name, and Santo Stefano, part of the Albesani cru, is its most famous parcel: a sheltered, south-west facing slope of calcareous marl identified as a superior site long before the modern cru map existed. Castello di Neive takes its name from the castle at the heart of the village and has farmed here for generations, historically selling fruit from Santo Stefano to other celebrated houses before bottling it under its own label. The wine is pure Nebbiolo, fermented on skins and matured in oak casks before the extended ageing the DOCG demands.
Decant ahead of serving at about 18C, with braised beef, veal shin, truffled pasta or aged hard cheese; it will develop in the cellar for a decade and more.
