Castello di Neive Barbaresco Santo Stefano DOCG 2022

Castello di Neive Barbaresco Santo Stefano DOCG is the estate's flagship single-vineyard Nebbiolo from one of the most celebrated sites in Barbaresco.

Santo Stefano has been recorded as a source of fine Nebbiolo since the 1700s. The vineyard lies within the Albesani cru in Neive and belongs entirely to this one estate, making it a monopole. It faces south to south-west on calcareous soil, and the great majority of its vines are more than fifty years old. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel over roughly two weeks, after which the wine matures for twelve to eighteen months in large, seasoned French oak casks and then rests in bottle before release. The site is known for a firm, austere structure when young that softens and gains complexity with time.

Patience pays with this wine: it has the tannin and acidity to age for fifteen years or longer. To drink it sooner, decant for a couple of hours and serve at 17 to 18 degrees with brasato al Barolo, roast lamb or mature cheeses.
