Description
Castello di Neive Langhe Arneis Montebertotto is a white from a Piedmontese grape that came close to disappearing altogether.
Arneis is native to the Roero hills across the Tanaro from Alba, where it was long grown in small quantities and often blended into or planted alongside Nebbiolo. By the 1960s it had dwindled to a handful of rows, and its revival is owed to a few growers who chose to bottle it as a variety in its own right; Castello di Neive was among the earliest, working from the Montebertotto site in the village of Neive. The wine is made in stainless steel to keep the grape's naturally low acidity fresh, and it is now among the signature whites of Piedmont, sold under the Langhe DOC.
Serve at 10 to 12C with antipasti, seafood, vitello tonnato or a simple risotto; it is best drunk within a few years of release.
