Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec 2020

Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard Mundus Bacillus Terrae Malbec is a single-parcel Malbec grown on limestone soils high in Mendoza's Uco Valley.

Now into its second century of winemaking, the Catena family planted the Adrianna Vineyard at almost 1,500 metres and named it after Nicolás Catena Zapata's youngest daughter. This 1.4-hectare parcel sits on soils scattered with limestone and marine deposits laid down when the area was under the sea millions of years ago. These layers drain well and are rich in rhizobacteria, the soil microbes that help vine roots cope with stress and take up nutrients. That is where the Latin name comes from: 'mundus bacillus terrae', or 'elegant microbes of the earth'. The wine is structured, fine-grained and made for ageing.

To get the best from it, decant well ahead and serve at 16 to 18 degrees. It suits grilled lamb cutlets, venison or a slow-roasted beef rib. Cellar it with confidence for many years.
