Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard White Stones Chardonnay 2020

Catena Zapata Adrianna Vineyard White Stones Chardonnay is a single-block Chardonnay from one of the highest and most celebrated vineyards in Argentina.

The fruit comes from a select 27 rows within Block 1 of the Adrianna Vineyard, planted by the Catena family at almost 1,500 metres in Gualtallary, in the Tupungato district of Mendoza's Uco Valley. The name describes the ground under these rows, which is covered in gravel and oval white stones. Such poor, rocky soil stops the roots from going deep and drains freely, so the vines are kept under constant stress and yields stay low. Cool mountain nights slow ripening right down and hold on to natural acidity. The result is a Chardonnay of real tension and mineral drive, made to speak of its site above all else.

Serve lightly chilled, at around 10 to 12 degrees, and give it a little time in the glass to open up. Try it with grilled crayfish, roast chicken with tarragon or a hard aged cheese. It will reward careful cellaring over the medium term.
