Description
Cavallotto Barolo Bricco Boschis in magnum is the estate's emblematic wine, blended from three parcels of the amphitheatre-shaped cru the family has farmed for generations.
Bricco Boschis is a large single holding in Castiglione Falletto, in the middle of the Barolo zone, where Nebbiolo on calcareous marl gives perfume alongside structure. Average vine age is around 50 years. Punta Marcello, at the top of the slope beside the cantina, is the coolest part of the site and gives fragrant, pale juice with long, angular tannins. Vigna Colle Sudovest faces south at lower elevation, the warmest microclimate here, producing fleshier, darker fruit and softer tannins. Fruit from Vigna San Giuseppe completes the blend. Fermentation ran 28 to 30 days on skins, followed by three years in large Slavonian oak casks of 20 to 100 hectolitres, and the wine was bottled unfiltered. The magnum format slows its development further.
Expect it to open out from around 2030 and hold for many years; serve at 16-18C with brasato al Barolo, roast duck or aged Parmigiano.
