Description

Cavallotto Barolo Riserva Vignolo is a single-vineyard Barolo from Castiglione Falletto, and the first wine ever bottled from the Vignolo cru on its own.

Barolo sits at the heart of the Langhe in Piedmont, where Nebbiolo on calcareous marl gives wines of pale colour, firm tannin and long life; Castiglione Falletto, in the centre of the zone, tends to combine the perfume of the western communes with the structure of Serralunga. The Cavallotto family, who farm organically at Bricco Boschis, acquired 60 per cent of the historic Vignolo cru in 1989 and were the first to bottle it as a single vineyard. Their holding is a 1.9-hectare parcel on a south-west facing ridge that lies 60 to 80 metres below Bricco Boschis, alongside Codana and Monprivato, with some of the highest limestone content in the commune. The vines were planted between 1948 and 1966. The wine spent 25 days on skins and five years in large neutral cask before release.

Approachable now for a Riserva but built for two decades in bottle; serve at 16-18C with braised beef cheek, aged Castelmagno or a mushroom risotto.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
