Description
Cellier Saint Benoit Les Charots Chardonnay comes from a small, very steep Pupillin lieu-dit on iron-rich, orange-tinted soils.
Les Charots sits between La Marcette and Champ-Berrand and is one of the smaller lieux-dits of Pupillin, on a sharp slope below La Marcette. The soils are stained orange by their iron content and carry a good deal of yellow Bajocian limestone, which Benjamin Benoit credits with the more chiselled, citrus-edged personality of this wine compared with his other parcels. The vines are around 30 years old and the site was first bottled separately in 2021. As with all the domaine's Chardonnays the handling is identical, so the parcel does the talking: whole bunches pressed into used 600-litre barrels, fermentation and 12 months on lees, then the gross lees decanted off and a further six months on clean lees in stainless steel before unfiltered bottling.
Ready now with several years ahead of it; serve at 10–12°C with grilled white fish, scallops or a goat's cheese salad.
