Chaffey Bros Evangeline Syrah 2022

Chaffey Bros Evangeline Syrah is a rich, silky Syrah from high country above the Barossa.

Chaffey Bros use the name Syrah for wines picked with an eye to perfume and finesse, a nod to the Rhône more than to the traditional Barossa style. Evangeline draws on higher, cooler vineyards where the grapes ripen slowly and hold natural acidity, giving dark plum and liquorice fruit with a thread of clove, pepper and dried herbs. The 2022 vintage was a mild, even season across the region, and the wine shows it in its depth of fruit and velvety tannins. Reviewers have described it as medium to full-bodied, long and savoury.

At around 16 to 18 degrees it pairs well with smoked brisket, duck with plum sauce or peppered venison. Drink now with a short decant, or cellar for five to eight years.
