Description

ChaLou Dreaded Friend Grenache Canowindra is a juicy, medium-bodied Grenache grown in the lower, warmer country around Canowindra in New South Wales.

Down in the Lachlan Valley, below the Orange plateau, the vineyards sit lower and get noticeably more warmth than the high country above. That suits a late-ripening, sun-loving grape like Grenache. This range is where the family plays with less common varieties and sites, and here they keep extraction gentle and mature the wine in older oak or neutral vessels so it stays supple, spicy and perfumed.

Raspberry, spice and soft tannins make it very easy to like. Give it a light chill, around 14–16°C, and pour it with lamb kofta, pizza, roast pork or a grazing board. Lovely now, and it'll keep for a few years yet.
