ChaLou Dreaded Friend Viognier Orange 2023

ChaLou Dreaded Friend Viognier Orange is an aromatic, silky Viognier from the Orange region, made in a more poised style than most Australian versions.

Condrieu in the northern Rhône is this grape's home, and it's notoriously fussy to grow, easily turning heavy and oily in warm climates. Around Mount Canobolas the long, cool season lets it build apricot and floral aromatics while keeping its freshness. The range exists for varieties outside the mainstream, and the making leans on lees contact and restrained oak for texture, not heavy-handed richness.

Apricot and blossom on a gently rounded palate. Chill to 10–12°C and serve with Moroccan chicken, mild curries, pork or soft washed-rind cheeses. Drink it within the next few years while it's fresh.
