ChaLou The Somm & The Winemaker Arneis Orange 2024

ChaLou The Somm & The Winemaker Arneis Orange is a fresh, textural white from Orange made from the Piedmontese grape Arneis.

One half of the team came from the restaurant floor and the other from the cellar, and this bottling is named for that partnership. The family is among the more committed growers of this Italian variety in the country. Originally from the Roero hills of Piedmont, it has taken well to Orange, where the high slopes of Mount Canobolas give a long season and keep acidity fresh. Cool fermentation and early bottling, with no heavy oak, put the focus on texture and aroma.

Think pear and almond with a lift of white flowers. Great at 8–10°C alongside antipasto, seafood pasta, grilled vegetables or vitello tonnato, and best drunk within a few years.
