Chambers Rutherglen Rare Muscat sits at the top of the four-tier Rutherglen Muscat classification, blended from a solera of great age.

Rutherglen in north-east Victoria is hot and dry through the autumn, which lets Muscat à Petits Grains Rouges raisin on the vine before fortification, and the region's long barrel ageing in warm sheds concentrates the wine further. Chambers Rosewood has been in the same family since William Chambers founded it in 1858, and its Rare material draws on old casks laid down by earlier generations, with a fraction drawn off and replaced each year. The wine is fortified with neutral spirit and aged in old oak.

Serve in small glasses at around 14 degrees with chocolate, sticky date pudding or blue cheese. An opened bottle keeps for months.
