Description
Champagne Agrapart Avizoise is a grand cru blanc de blancs from the clay-rich Côteaux d'Avize, fermented in bottle under cork rather than crown seal.
Avize is one of the grand cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, and Agrapart is among the most closely watched grower houses working there. Avizoise is sourced from vines of up to sixty years of age in the argilo-calcaire Côteaux d'Avize, specifically the neighbouring sites of Les Robarts and Les Gros Yeux. The heavier clay content of these soils gives a deeper, more powerful and more textural expression of the village than the estate's Minéral cuvée, which comes from thinner, chalkier ground. The wine was aged entirely in 600-litre demi-muid, and the second fermentation was carried out under cork, a slower and more demanding method than crown seal. It spent a minimum of seventy-two months on lees and was dosed at three grams per litre.
A Champagne for the table rather than the aperitif, and one that will continue to develop for a decade. Serve at 8-10°C in a white wine glass with roast poultry, veal or a mature comté.
