Champagne Agrapart Grand Cru Minéral Blanc de Blancs 2014 Disg. Aug 20

A vintage blanc de blancs from two chalk parcels, Champbouton in Avize and Les Bionnes in Cramant, where the vines root straight into the bedrock.

Pascal Agrapart has run the family house at Avize since 1984, taking it from four hectares to twelve, nine of them grand cru, and farming without herbicides or synthetic treatments with the soils turned mechanically. Minéral is one of three single-site vintage wines made from parcels lying within a few hundred metres of one another but differing in soil: this is the chalk cuvée, while its siblings Avizoise and Vénus come from clay and from a mixture of the two. The vintage wines ferment entirely on native yeast in older 600-litre casks and complete malolactic fermentation, then spend an extended period on lees before hand disgorgement — this bottle in August 2020 — and are finished with a very low dosage, so the chalk and the acidity carry the wine rather than sugar.

Ready to drink but with the structure to develop for a decade more. Serve at 8°C in a white wine glass rather than a flute, with oysters, sashimi or roast chicken.
