Description
Bérêche et Fils Brut Réserve Vieilles Vignes is the house's unfiltered grower Champagne, built on the 2020 base wine and disgorged by hand in July 2023.
The Bérêche family works from Ludes, on the northern flank of the Montagne de Reims, and the estate has become one of the reference points for the current generation of grower-producers. This release draws 65% of its fruit from the base year, with the balance from the two preceding harvests. The blend runs 35% Pinot Noir from Ludes, Trépail and Ormes, 35% Chardonnay from sites across the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne, and 30% Meunier from Mareuil-le-Port. Average vine age is around 40 years. Fruit is picked by hand and fermented with natural yeasts in barrel, then held 24 to 36 months sur lattes in the Bérêche cellar before hand disgorgement with a dosage of just under 6 g/L. The wine is bottled without filtration.
Drinking well now and worth cellaring for several years yet; serve at about 8°C with oysters, roast chicken or a hard alpine cheese.
