Champagne Bérêche et Fils Brut Réserve Vieilles Vignes Non Filtrée is the house’s entry cuvée, made with the attention most estates reserve for a prestige bottling.

Bérêche et Fils farms at Ludes in the Montagne de Reims. This release is built on the 2021 harvest, and because yields that year were low it comprises 55 per cent base wine with the balance drawn from the two preceding years. The blend splits three ways: 35 per cent Pinot Noir from Ludes, Trépail and Ormes in the Montagne de Reims; 35 per cent Chardonnay from sites across the Montagne and the Vallée de la Marne; and 30 per cent Meunier from Mareuil-le-Port. Ludes and Trépail supply the tension that offsets the depth and texture of the Marne fruit and the reserve wines. Average vine age is 40 years. The hand-harvested fruit ferments naturally in barrel and then ages in barrel and tank; after bottling the wine spends 36 months sur lattes in the Bérêche cellar before hand disgorgement with just over 5 g/L dosage. It goes into bottle unfiltered.

Drinking well now and worth five years or more. Serve at about 8°C with oysters, roast chicken or a hard alpine cheese.
