Description
Champagne Bérêche et Fils Brut Réserve Vieilles Vignes is bottled unfiltered and given three years on lees before hand disgorgement.
Bérêche et Fils is a grower house at Ludes in the Montagne de Reims, run by brothers Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche, and this cuvée is the estate's introduction. The blend is thirty-five per cent Pinot Noir from Ludes, Trépail and Ormes, thirty-five per cent Chardonnay from sites across the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne, and thirty per cent Meunier from Mareuil-le-Port. Ludes and Trépail supply the tension that offsets the depth and texture of the Marne fruit and the reserve wines. Around sixty-five per cent of the blend comes from the base vintage, the balance from the two preceding years, and average vine age is forty years. The hand-harvested fruit ferments naturally in barrel before ageing in barrel and tank. After bottling the wine spends thirty-six months on lees in the Bérêche cellar and is then disgorged by hand with roughly 5 g/L dosage.
Drinking beautifully now and capable of long ageing. Serve at around 8°C with roast chicken, smoked salmon or a well-aged Gruyère.
