Champagne Bérêche et Fils Campania Remensis Rosé takes its name from the Roman title for the countryside around Reims and is built on vines planted by the brothers' maternal grandmother.

The fruit comes from three hectares of old vines rooted in the sandy soils of Les Montées at Ormes, just west of Reims, planted in the 1950s. The blend is 70 per cent Pinot Noir and Meunier with 25 per cent Chardonnay, topped up with 5 per cent still red wine from the same vineyard, so the colour comes from blending rather than skin contact. Fruit was picked on 13 September at 11.5 to 12.1 per cent potential alcohol, one of the more powerful harvests of the past decade. A long, slow fermentation was followed by ageing on lees in barrels of three to six years of age, and after the second fermentation the wine spent a further 36 months and more on lees in bottle. It was disgorged by hand with 3.5 g/L dosage.

A rosé for the table rather than the aperitif hour, drinking well now and holding for several years. Serve at about 8°C with roast pigeon, duck breast or char-grilled prawns.
