Champagne Bérêche et Fils Campania Remensis Rosé comes from three hectares of old vines planted by the brothers' grandmother in the 1950s.

The name is the Roman term for the countryside around Reims, and the fruit is grown just west of the city at Ormes, in the sandy Les Montées vineyard. The blend is 70% Pinot Noir and Meunier with 25% Chardonnay, topped up with 5% still red wine to give the colour. Raphaël and Vincent Bérêche work these old family vines with the same low-intervention approach they apply across the range, and the wine was disgorged by hand with 3.5 g/L dosage. Sandy soils tend to give lighter-framed, more perfumed wines than the chalk of the Montagne or the Côte des Blancs, and that shows in a rosé built on texture and lift rather than weight. Raphaël rates roast pigeon as his favourite match for it.

Drinking well now and good for five to eight years. Serve at 8°C with roast pigeon, duck breast or a plate of jamón.
