Champagne Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Brut Rosé NV Disg. May 1.5L MAGNUM 2016

This is Egly-Ouriet's grand cru rosé Champagne in magnum, built on Ambonnay Pinot Noir.

Egly-Ouriet farms in Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay, all grand cru villages on the Montagne de Reims planted principally to Pinot Noir. The Brut Rosé follows the estate's usual approach of very ripe fruit from low-yielding old vines, a base wine largely fermented and raised in oak, and long ageing on lees before disgorgement with minimal dosage. The colour comes from the addition of still red wine made from Ambonnay Pinot Noir, the village's traditional and long-established speciality, to a base of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. In magnum the wine has twice the volume against the same amount of oxygen ingress at the cork, so it ages more slowly and arrives at the table fresher than the same wine in a standard bottle. This bottling was disgorged in May 2016.

It is drinking now and suits the table more than the aperitif hour. Serve at around 8°C with roast duck, salmon or a plate of charcuterie.
