Description
Champagne Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millésime is a vintage-dated grower Champagne built on grand cru fruit from the house's home village of Ambonnay.
Egly-Ouriet is based at Ambonnay on the southern face of the Montagne de Reims, a grand cru village long valued for the depth and structure of its Pinot Noir. Francis Egly farms a small holding across Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay, working to low yields and picking late, which is the foundation of the house style. The Millésime is drawn from the oldest grand cru parcels and is led by Pinot Noir with Chardonnay in support. Fermentation is in oak, the wine is left on lees in bottle for an extended period, and dosage is kept low so that the ripeness of the fruit and the chalk beneath it carry the wine rather than sugar. This bottling was disgorged in May 2017.
It is drinking now and has the structure to hold in a cool cellar for some years yet. Serve at around 8°C with oysters, roast chicken or an aged alpine cheese.
