Description
Champagne Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millésime is a vintage Champagne from 40-year-old vines in grand cru Ambonnay, aged in barrel until bottling.
Egly-Ouriet farms in Ambonnay, a grand cru village on the southern side of the Montagne de Reims whose chalk soils are among the most highly rated for Pinot Noir in the region. Francis Egly works with very low yields and late picking, and the wines are built on ripeness and texture rather than austerity. The Millésime is 70 per cent Pinot Noir and 30 per cent Chardonnay, kept in barrel until bottling with the malolactic fermentation blocked to hold the acidity, and dosed at 5 grams per litre. The result is a deep and layered expression of the village, and along with the Blanc de Noirs it stands among the finest wines made in the grand crus of the Montagne de Reims. This bottling was disgorged in July 2019.
Drinking well now and able to hold for a decade; try it with roast poultry, scallops or a mature hard cheese. Serve at 8-10°C.
