Champagne Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Millésime 2011 disg Oct 2020

Egly-Ouriet's Grand Cru Millésime is the house's vintage Champagne, built on Pinot Noir from the grand cru vineyards of Ambonnay.

Egly-Ouriet farms at Ambonnay on the southern slope of the Montagne de Reims, one of the villages where Pinot Noir ripens most fully, and Francis Egly declares a vintage only in years he judges worth it. The blend is led by Pinot Noir with a smaller share of Chardonnay, all from grand cru sites. The estate's practices are consistent across the range: very low yields, late harvesting so the fruit comes in properly ripe, fermentation and ageing in oak barrels, and a long stay on lees in bottle, running to several years more than most vintage Champagne receives. Dosage at disgorgement is minimal. The wine is correspondingly rich and vinous, closer in weight to a fine white Burgundy than to a light aperitif style.

Drinking well now with a long life ahead; serve at about 8°C with roast poultry, lobster or a mature hard cheese.
