Description
Champagne Egly-Ouriet Grand Cru Rosé takes its colour and much of its character from 5 per cent of the estate's own Ambonnay Coteaux Champenois red.
The fruit is entirely grand cru and entirely estate-grown, which is unusual even among the better growers, and the blend is 70 per cent Pinot Noir and 30 per cent Chardonnay, mostly from Ambonnay. This release is built on 2019 at 50 per cent, with reserve wines split between 2018 at 30 per cent and 2017 at 20, bottled in 2020 and disgorged in July 2024 after 48 months on lees. Dosage is a negligible 1 g/L. The addition of the estate's still red Pinot gives the wine its colour and a good deal of its vinous weight, yet this remains the most delicate wine in the Egly-Ouriet range, finer and more perfumed than the Brut or the V.P. It is now bottled in dark glass to guard against light strike.
Drinking beautifully now and capable of five to ten years. Serve at around 8°C with salmon, duck breast or a bowl of strawberries.
