Description
Champagne Jacques Selosse Aÿ Grand Cru La Côte Faron is a blanc de noirs drawn from a perpetual blend begun in 1994.
Aÿ is the Grand Cru village of the Vallée de la Marne most prized for Pinot Noir, and La Côte Faron is a south-facing site there that Selosse acquired in 1994. The cuvée was formerly sold as Contraste and is now named for its lieu-dit, in line with the rest of the domaine's single-vineyard collection. It is 100 per cent Pinot Noir, produced from a perpetual blend started in the year the vineyard was bought, so each release carries a fraction of every vintage since. The southern exposure gives Pinot Noir with distinct herbal and forest character and considerable depth, which the barrel work and long lees ageing draw out rather than cover. Only around 1,700 bottles are made each year, making this one of the rarest wines in the range.
Drink now or over the next decade. Serve at 8°C with roast duck, mushroom dishes or a mature Comté.
