Champagne Jacques Selosse Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Version Originale is a blanc de blancs blended across three successive vintages.

Version Originale, usually shortened to VO, is the cuvée most people meet first from this address. It is a blend of three consecutive harvests from Avize, Cramant and Oger, three Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, with Avize taking the largest share. The vineyards sit mostly on the higher slopes, above a gradient of fifteen per cent, so the soils carry less clay and the vines root more directly into chalk — the reason this bottling reads brighter and more transparent than the rest of the range. The wine spends six or seven years on lees and is finished with a tiny dosage of between zero and 1.3 grams per litre, low enough that the fruit and the barrel work have nowhere to hide. There is still plenty of texture and generosity behind the clarity.

Drinking well now and worth several years in the cellar. Serve at 8°C with oysters, sashimi or roast poultry.
