Description
Champagne Jacques Selosse Rosé is built on Avize Chardonnay with a small addition of Ambonnay Pinot Noir rouge from Francis Egly.
Most Champagne rosé is made by adding a little still red wine to a white base, and this is no exception, but the components are unusually good. The base is a blend of two successive vintages of Chardonnay grown on the slopes of Avize, a Grand Cru village of the Côte des Blancs, to which is added between five and ten per cent of Pinot Noir rouge from Ambonnay, sourced from Francis Egly — a grower whose own reds are among the most sought-after in the region. The wine spends a minimum of five years on lees and receives a dosage of between 2.4 and 5.5 grams per litre. It is one of Selosse's most striking bottlings, setting the texture and lees character of the Chardonnay against the bright red-fruited lift of the Egly Pinot.
Drink over the next five to eight years. Serve at 8°C with charcuterie, duck breast or a plate of prawns.
