Champagne La Closerie Fac-Simile Rosé is the rosé version of Jérôme Prévost's Les Béguines cuvée, coloured with 10 per cent red Meunier from the same vineyard.

Prévost farms a little over two hectares at Gueux, west of Reims, planted almost entirely to Meunier, a variety usually treated as a blending component rather than the whole story. Fac-Simile was first made in 2007 and is now produced in most years. The base here is the standard cuvée, drawn from the 2020 harvest with 20 per cent 2019, to which 10 per cent still red Meunier is added. The fruit for that red comes from a section of Les Béguines affected by court-noué, or fanleaf virus, which stunts vigour and gives tiny yields of small, concentrated bunches that ripen quickly. The winemaking follows Prévost's usual practice, with wild fermentation in used barrels, no filtration and minimal handling. Dosage was 2.5 g/L.

Detailed and chalky, it drinks well now and will hold for several years. Serve at 8°C in a Burgundy glass with charcuterie, salmon or duck rillettes.
