Description

Champagne La Closerie Fac-Simile Rosé is Jérôme Prévost’s Meunier-based cuvée with the addition of red wine from a virus-affected corner of the same vineyard.

Prévost farms 2.2 hectares at Gueux, west of Reims, and Les Béguines is the vineyard behind everything he makes. The rosé was first produced in 2007 and is effectively the estate wine, a 2022 base with 20 per cent reserve, lifted by 12 per cent Meunier red. The grapes for that red component come from a small parcel of Les Béguines prone to court-noué, or fanleaf virus, which stunts the vines’ vigour and gives tiny yields of concentrated bunches and berries that ripen quickly. He now aims to make the wine every year from the same source. This release was disgorged without dosage, as the wine finished with a little residual sugar of its own. As with the rest of the range, it is fermented without additions and bottled unfiltered.

Drinking now and good for five to eight years; it suits a Burgundy glass and a table. Serve at 8°C with salmon, roast quail or a well-aged hard cheese.
