Champagne La Closerie Grand Cru is a very rare Prévost bottling built around two tiny plots of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger bought in 2021.

Jérôme Prévost is known almost entirely for Meunier from Les Béguines at Gueux, which makes this Chardonnay-led grand cru cuvée a genuine departure. It debuted with the 2019 vintage and since 2021 has included fruit from the 0.28 hectares he and Agnès own in Le Mesnil, where the massale-selected vines were planted in the 1960s on hard Lutetian limestone, the stone quarried for the cathedrals of Reims and Paris. The balance of the blend is further Chardonnay from Le Mesnil in the Côte des Blancs and Pinot Noir from Puisieulx, at the northern end of the Montagne de Reims just above Rilly-la-Montagne and Verzenay. Both of those sites are farmed by growers working to a charter that emphasises cultivated soils, low yields and full ripeness, with picking dates set in consultation with Prévost.

Rich and open now, with a decade ahead. Serve at 8°C with roast chicken, grilled lobster or a mature Comté.
