Description

Champagne La Closerie Base 19 is the third release of Jérôme Prévost's négociant-manipulant label, a cuvée created after the frost-hit 2017 season.

Prévost is a grower first, farming Les Béguines at Gueux, and this second label exists because the estate vineyard could not supply enough fruit after the 2017 frosts. The first releases were entirely Meunier bought from his neighbours in Gueux. He works only with growers who cultivate their soils, keep yields low and pick at full ripeness, and he sets the harvest date and oversees the sorting himself. The winemaking is identical to the estate label: indigenous yeasts, fermentation and ageing in used barrels ranging from 225 to 600 litres, with no racking, filtration or stabilisation. The second fermentation is set off with 23 g/L, the wine spends up to eighteen months on lees and is disgorged by hand with a dosage of around 2 g/L.

Drinking well now and capable of five or more years. Serve at 8°C in a white wine glass with roast chicken, mushroom dishes or a soft-rind cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
