Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Blanc de Blancs is an all-Chardonnay Champagne drawn from the family's chalkiest, biodynamically farmed sites at Chavot and Épernay.
The Laherte family has grown vines in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay since 1889 and now works dozens of small parcels, with Aurélien Laherte pushing the house towards biodynamics and parcel-by-parcel vinification. This release is a 2017 base carrying a significant 50 per cent of reserve wines from the two previous vintages, and was disgorged in November 2019. The sites are rich in chalk and chalky clay marl, with some flint and schist as well; it is the chalk that drives the wine's racy, saline line and its citric definition, while the clay gives balancing weight and texture. First fermentation took place in barrique, foudre and tronconique cask, after which the wine spent just over two years on lees in bottle. As with every Laherte Champagne, disgorgement was done by hand.
Ready now and good for five years or so, it suits oysters, sashimi and roast white fish. Serve at around 8°C.
