Description
Les Beaudiers is a saignée rosé Champagne made entirely from old-vine Pinot Meunier.
Laherte Frères is a grower house at Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, an area where Meunier rather than Pinot Noir or Chardonnay dominates the plantings. Aurélien Laherte farms the family parcels with close attention to soil life and works with very low dosage across the range. Les Beaudiers comes from old Meunier vines on the clay and chalk of Chavot, planted in the 1950s and 1960s. It is made by the saignée method: the juice is bled off the skins after a short maceration, so the colour and the grip come from the fruit itself rather than from blending a red wine into a white base. This bottling is based on the 2013 harvest and was disgorged in March 2016.
It is ready to drink and shows better with food than as a pure aperitif. Serve at around 8°C with charcuterie, duck breast or a bowl of cherries.
