Description
Les Longues Voyes is Laherte Frères' blanc de noirs, made entirely from Pinot Noir grown on a single hectare of biodynamic vines at Chamery in the Montagne de Reims.
The name translates as the long way, a reference both to the twenty-five kilometres between the Laherte cellars and the vineyard and to the wine's extended ageing. The fruit comes from a single hectare at Chamery farmed biodynamically by a friend of Aurélien Laherte's, with thirty-five-year-old vines rooted in clay and silt over a limestone base. The whole cuvée is made from one four-tonne press load, fermented naturally and matured in old barrels bought from Clos des Epeneaux and Benjamin Leroux. Malolactic fermentation is blocked, the wine spends eighteen months in barrel and a further eighteen to twenty months in bottle, and dosage is four grams per litre. The estate now releases two vintage blanc de noirs at the same time, this one and Les Vignes d'Autrefois from Meunier.
Drinking now and capable of five to eight years. Serve at about 8°C with roast chicken, pork terrine or grilled mushrooms on toast.
