Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Les Longues Voyes Blanc de Noirs is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir from biodynamic vines at Chamery.
The name translates roughly as the long way, a reference both to the 25 kilometres between the Laherte estate at Chavot and the vineyard itself and to the wine's extended ageing. The fruit comes from a single hectare of biodynamically farmed vines at Chamery in the Montagne de Reims, owned by a friend of Aurélien Laherte's. The 35-year-old vines are rooted in clay and silt over a limestone base. The wine was made from a single four-tonne press, naturally fermented and matured in old Clos des Epeneaux and Leroux barrels for eighteen months, then a further eighteen to twenty months in bottle. There was no malolactic conversion and the dosage was 4 g/L. The estate now releases two vintage Blanc de Noirs together: Les Vignes d'Autrefois from Meunier on chalky subsoil and this one from Pinot Noir on limestone, which makes the difference in structure easy to read side by side.
Drinking well now with the depth to hold for several years. Serve at 8-10°C with roast game birds, mushroom risotto or aged hard cheese.
