Description
Les Vignes d'Autrefois is Laherte Frères' varietal Meunier, made from the family's oldest ungrafted-selection plantings on the slopes above the Vallée de la Marne.
Laherte Frères farms at Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, in the heart of Meunier country, and Aurélien Laherte has done as much as anyone to argue that the variety deserves to be taken as seriously as Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. The name means the vines of former times, and the cuvée comes from old parcels at Les Beaudiers, planted in the middle of the last century on the sandy clay and chalk of the sector. The wine is pressed on the house's Coquard press, fermented and matured in old oak in the manner of the estate's single-site bottlings, kept on lees in bottle and disgorged by hand with very little dosage.
Drinking well now and will hold for several years; serve at about 8°C with charcuterie, roast pork or a mushroom tart.
