Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Nature de Craie is a zero-sulphur, zero-dosage Blanc de Blancs from premier cru chalk in the Côte des Blancs.
Aurélien Laherte spent several vintages working towards a cuvée made without any sulphur, and cracked it with two barrels of Côte des Blancs juice from premier cru sites at Vertus and Voipreux. He found the keys to stability were zero dosage and a full malolactic conversion. This release comes from a single vintage and from parcels planted in 1960, 1965 and 1987. Craie means chalk, and these vineyards lie on the lower slopes where exposure is good and the fruit ripens sufficiently that no dosage is needed. The fruit is hand-harvested and traditionally pressed, the base wine vinified in neutral oak barrels, and the wine then aged on cork for twelve months before being disgorged with nothing added.
Drink over the next two to three years, and keep it cold. Serve at about 8°C as an aperitif, or with oysters, raw fish or a plate of charcuterie.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
