Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Rosé de Meunier is made from Meunier alone, vinified three separate ways and then assembled.
Laherte Frères, based at Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, is closely identified with Meunier, and this rosé makes the case for the variety on its own. Sixty per cent of the volume was pressed off in the conventional way to make white wine, with more than a third of that component coming from reserve wines aged in barrel. A further thirty per cent was made as a saignée rosé, the juice left in contact with the skins for a short period, and the final ten per cent is a full red wine. The white component comes from vines averaging twenty-five years of age, while the red and rosé components come from vines of more than forty. Fermentation and ageing took place across vats, foudre and old demi-muid barrels before bottling for the second fermentation. Dosage at disgorgement was just 2.5 g/L.
Drinking well now and good for several years yet. Serve at around 8°C with charcuterie, duck rillettes or grilled prawns.
