Description
Rosé de Meunier is a grower Champagne made entirely from Pinot Meunier, assembled from three separate vinifications of the same grape.
Laherte Frères farms at Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, an area planted predominantly to Meunier, the variety most often relegated to a supporting role in blends. Aurélien Laherte builds this cuvée in three parts: 60 per cent pressed straight off as a white wine, more than a third of that component held as reserve wine aged in barrel; 30 per cent made as a saignée rosé, with the juice left briefly on skins; and the last 10 per cent as a fully made red wine. The white-wine parcels average twenty-five years of age, those for the red wine more than forty. Fermentation and ageing take place across tank, foudre and old demi-muid before bottling for the second fermentation. This disgorgement, from March 2021, draws on the 2018 and 2017 harvests and was finished with 2.5 grams per litre of dosage.
It is ready now and suits the table better than the aperitif hour. Serve at around 8°C with duck, roast quail or a plate of charcuterie.
