Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Rosé de Meunier is made entirely from Pinot Meunier vinified three different ways.
Laherte Frères is based at Chavot in the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay, a sector where Meunier is the workhorse variety and rarely gets to headline on its own. This rosé is a blend of three components: 60% pressed off in the conventional way to make a white base, over a third of which was reserve wine aged in barrel; 30% made as a saignée rosé, with the juice left briefly on skins; and the final 10% from a fully made red wine. The vines average twenty-five years for the white-base parcels and over forty years for the red. The wines were fermented and aged across vats, foudre and old demi-muid barrels before going to bottle for the second fermentation. This release blends equal parts of the 2018 and 2017 harvests, disgorged in May 2022 with 2.5 g/L dosage.
Ready now and good for four or five years. Serve at 8°C with charcuterie, roast quail or a bowl of strawberries.
